With the King’s Coronation around the corner, there is not a better time to plant two trees in the King and Late Queen’s name. The trees in question are the English Oak and the London Plane have be planted in Boston Recreation Ground in the Lincolnshire town of Sleaford by the Mayor of Sleaford, Chairwoman of NKDC (North Kesteven District Council) and Sleaford’s Town Crier along with the three secondary schools and the SJSF (Sleaford Joint Sixth Form). These trees have been planted on the eve of the coronation. Today we commemorate the official start of a historic reign.
As the ceremony began the Town Crier opened with this: “Today we commemorate the official start of a historic reign” This then led into the planting of the London Plane; which is a symbol of resilience, long living, and regeneration; to symbolise her late majesty’s traits. As with both, they were planted by the Mayor of Sleaford and the Chairwoman of NKDC together.
We then went to the other side of the ground to plant the English Oak, which is where the saying “Hearts of Oak” comes from. But this time, planted with the students help. The English Oak represents the strength of British people.
Both had blessings said by Father Phillip of Sleaford, including the King’s prayer.
This is not the only event for the King’s coronation, there is a concert at Windsor, village lunches and of course the crowning ceremony.

A good afternoon and well captured. Good to see many young people in attendance and being part of our continued heritage.
I went to London and watched the ceremony on a large screen in Hyde Park. Despite the rain, there was a great atmosphere amongst the crowds. Everyone stood up to sing God Save the King and gave a loud cheer as the crown was placed on the King’s head. What a great day!
